I honestly can’t recommend this trip highly enough. It was one of those rare experiences that felt genuinely magical from beginning to end.
There is something extraordinary about travelling through Hinchinbrook by sea kayak. Paddling beneath those huge mountains, pulling into deserted beaches, swimming in clear water and then setting up camp each night with the ocean right there. At times it felt like we had somehow slipped into a part of the world that very few people get to see.
Some of my favourite moments were the smallest ones: turtles quietly popping their heads up beside our kayak, watching the coastline drift past from the water, the changing tides and light, and waking up each morning knowing that the only way forward was to get back into the kayak and keep exploring.
And then there were our guides, Rocky and Dave. They were absolutely outstanding. Knowledgeable, capable, funny and incredibly generous with their time and energy. They made everything feel safe and effortless without ever taking away from the sense of adventure. You could tell they genuinely loved the place, and getting to experience it with people who know and appreciate it so deeply made the trip even more special.
I went into this hoping for a great adventure and came away completely enchanted by the whole experience. Wild, beautiful, peaceful, challenging and ridiculously fun. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
Thank you Rocky and Dave for an unforgettable few days. I’ll be thinking about those turtles appearing beside the kayak for a very long time.
